A series of
company open days planned for 1999 has been described as a unique
opportunity to emphasise the pioneering character of Hull. Andrew
Milner, chair of the Investors in People panel at Humberside Training
and Enterprise Council and former president of the Hull and East
Riding Chamber of Commerce has been working on the idea with the
commercial and industrial working party of Hull700.
"People are
continually astounded by the calibre of companies with international
reputations which were born in Hull. Opening the doors during 1999
will be a great way of celebrating Hull700 by putting these companies
in the limelight.
"We are contacting
a number of major companies in the area, especially those at the
forefront of their sectors, with the idea of enabling the people
of Hull to get behind the factory gates and see for themselves how
a modern company operates," said Mr Milner. "We are also keen to
hear from other companies in the area who feel that their contribution
would be positive."
The Hull700
office will help to organise the days, publicity and transport.
Companies already planning open days can link into the Hull700 celebrations
and benefit from the same support.
"It will be
a great public relations exercise for the city and for the companies
involved," continued Mr Milner.
"It can only
be a win situation for the businesses and the people of Hull ."
Kingston Communications, the Hull Daily Mail, Ideal Standard, Associated British Ports
and British Aerospace have all confirmed that they will be hosting
an open day.
